DNRC Recruiting for Seasonal Fire Jobs

By Beacon Staff

With employment opportunities in the area scarce, firefighting might prove to be one recession-proof job option this year. The Beacon received this press release yesterday from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation:

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is accepting applications for seasonal firefighter and fire support positions for the 2009 summer field season, according to a press release from the agency.

“Depending on the status of our returning workforce, we may have a number of positions available throughout western Montana, including Missoula, Lincoln, Anaconda, Kalispell, Libby, Plains, Helena and Dillon,” Paula Short, DNRC Fire Information Officer, said in the release. “This is a great opportunity for college students, teachers, or others who are looking for summer seasonal work.”

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire. All persons performing firefighting duties are required to pass a physical fitness test within three weeks of employment.

Positions will be advertised until filled, with a first review deadline of March 6, 2009. Applications received after that date will be reviewed and interviews will be scheduled on a regular basis prior to the final application deadline of May 29, 2009.

Details on available positions, location, and application materials are available on the DNRC Web site, http://www.dnrc.mt.gov/jobs.
