Hauck Signs One-Year Contract at UM

By Beacon Staff

The Missoulian is reporting that Bobby Hauck has signed a one-year contract to return as head coach of the University of Montana Grizzlies’ football team. Athletic Director Jim O’Day made the announcement today. The contract was signed earlier this week but must be given final approval by the Montana Board of Regents, which will discuss the matter at a March meeting.

Hauck has a 66-16 record in his six years at the helm of the UM football program. His 80.5 winning percentage is the second best in Griz history and his 66 wins are the fourth most in Big Sky Conference history. But despite two national championship appearances, the one major omission from his resume is a title. Hauck’s Grizzlies lost to James Madison in the championship in 2004 and again to Richmond last year.

According to the Missoulian, Hauck’s new contract has a base salary of $144,500. It also calls for an additional $40,000 for the coach’s television and radio appearances, a country club membership and a $500-per-month car stipend. Additional income will come from camps and annual performance incentives.
