Missoula Soldier Killed in Iraq

HELENA – A soldier from Montana has been killed in Iraq.

The Defense Department says 44-year-old Lt. Col. Garnet Derby of Missoula died Feb. 9 in Mosul, after being wounded by an improvised explosive device. Derby was one of four soldiers killed by the explosion near their vehicle.

They were assigned to an Army division at Fort Hood, Texas.

The others killed were from Kentucky, Arizona and Massachusetts.
