Projected State Revenue Drops Again

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – State fiscal analysts are trimming their prediction for state revenue collections another $30 million, citing a better understanding of the recession’s full effects.

The Legislative Fiscal Division is charged with trying to predict how much money the Legislature will have to put in it’s two-year spending plan.

Their latest prediction Friday means a total drop of about $115 million below the figure used by Gov. Brian Schweitzer in his proposed $3.8 billion general-fund budget.

But lawmakers say the latest downward revision won’t have a big impact on their plans — especially in light of the large federal stimulus check headed their way.

House and Senate leaders say they have been crafting budget plans expecting that projected tax collections could be dropping a little more.
