FWP Reconsiders No-Wake Law

By Beacon Staff

No-wake zones were causing waves at some Flathead area lakes, especially Echo Lake, two summers ago when the Beacon wrote this story. Now, the Fish Wildlife and Parks Commission is holding a public hearing about removing the restrictions on at least one part of the lake.

Here’s the public meeting notice from FWP:

The FWP Commission will hold a public hearing on Echo Lake boating rules this Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at the FWP building on N. Meridian Road in Kalispell.

Public comment will be heard on the proposal to remove the no-wake boating restrictions on the narrow entrance and exit to Sunrise Bay (west of Blackies Bay), and the narrow entrance and exit to the bay on the south side of Echo Lake that is bordered by Echo Chalet Drive and East Village Drive.

Concerned persons may submit their comments either orally or in writing at the hearing. Written comment may also be submitted to: FWP, attn: Martha Abbrescia, 490 North Meridian Road, Kalispell, MT 59901; fax: 257-0349; or email: [email protected]. Comments must be received by February 27, 2009.
