By Beacon Staff

A 38-year-old Kalispell woman has been charged with embezzling more than $50,000 from the law firm where she worked.

Kiersten Compofelice is charged with felony theft by embezzlement and the unlawful use of a computer. She was arrested on Feb. 4 and is free on $5,000 bail. She declined comment when reached by The Daily Inter Lake.

Court records say Compofelice used her position as operations manager at the Lonnevik Law Firm to forge $42,500 in checks between March 2008 and January.

Prosecutors say she also charged $7,850 in personal purchases to a company credit card and electronically transferred $2,800 from the firm’s bank accounts to her personal account.

Kalispell Police Detective Kevin McCarvel said the investigation continues.
