Bigfork Loses to Anaconda at State

By Beacon Staff

Bigfork lost 74-45 to Anaconda at the State Class A Girls Basketball Tournament in Butte Thursday night, giving Northwestern A an 0-2 record at the tourney thus far. Earlier in the day, Columbia Falls lost to Hamilton 51-48. Bigfork came into the game as Northwestern A’s second seed, but ran into a tough Anaconda team that’s led by superstar point guard Torry Hill. In Anaconda’s two Southwestern A divisional victories last week, Hill scored 42 and 31 points, respectively. She averaged over 23 a game during the regular season.

With the loss, the Valkyries drop into the consolation bracket and will play Belgrade at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Belgrade lost to Miles City 60-29 in the first round. Columbia Falls plays Glendive, the top seed from the east, at 12:30 p.m. Glendive lost to Havre 38-37 in the opening round. I will continue to update the progress of Bigfork and Columbia Falls throughout the tournament. Click here for a full bracket.

The tournament is held Thursday through Saturday at the Butte Civic Center. The boys tournament will be held at the ExpoPark in Great Falls on March 12-14.
