WEST GLACIER – The proposed removal of lake trout from Quartz Lake in Glacier National Park will be examined in an environmental assessment.
Lake trout are not native to Quartz Lake, and their effect on native fish is a concern.
Park officials have set a deadline of April 6 for public comment to consider when preparing the environmental assessment.
Quartz Lake is in Glacier’s northwestern corner. Until recently, the lake was the Columbia River Basin’s largest with native fish populations not compromised by nonnative species of fish.
