Glacier, Whitefish and Columbia Falls Headed to State

By Beacon Staff

Three state basketball tournaments are wrapped up. Now we have five more to go.

Over the weekend, the state tourneys were held for girls basketball in three different classes: A, B and C. In Class A, Anaconda earned its second straight title with a 56-41 win over Hamilton. Fairfield, in Class B, also won its second straight state championship with a 56-47 victory over Hamilton. To continue the theme of repeat winners, Highwood won its second straight Class C title by defeating Belt 53-49.

Both the Class AA boys and girls tournaments are held this week on March 12-14 in Butte, with games alternating between Butte High School and the Civic Center. The Glacier boys are the only local team that made it to Class AA state and will face Bozeman on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Northwest Montana also has two representatives at the Class A boys tournament, which is being held at ExpoPark in Great Falls on March 12-14. Columbia Falls, the region’s No. 1 seed, faces off against Southwestern A’s second seed Corvallis on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Whitefish, with the conference’s second seed, will face Southwestern A’s top seed Dillon in the first round on Thursday at 8 p.m.
