Victim of Hot Springs Crash Identified

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – Officials have released the name of a 21-year-old Arlee man who died from exposure while trying to walk for help after his car crashed into a creek near Hot Springs.

Jordan Prewett was one of three young adults in the car when it went off the road at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures were below zero.

Troopers say the driver lost control of the car on a curve and the car ended up on its top in the creek. The patrol says the men were not seriously injured, but all got wet.

The two passengers found some shelter from the 25-below wind chill in a nearby hay stack, but Prewett decided to walk for help.

The survivors flagged down a passing snow plow for assistance about three hours after the crash. Prewett’s body was found about a half mile from the crash site.
