Columbia Falls City Manager Takes Salary Cut

By Beacon Staff

Columbia Falls City Manager Bill Shaw has volunteered to take a $7,500 annual salary cut until the city’s financial situation improves.

Shaw proposed the cut, about 9.5 percent of his $79,000 salary, and the city council approved the reduction on Monday.

“This reduction should proportionally commence with the next pay period and continue until we agree that the revenue sources of the city improve,” Shaw wrote in a memo to the council.

Shaw, whose job also includes planning and zoning, said a review shows the city’s planning office and building codes department will see revenues “substantially below” last July’s estimate.

“We don’t anticipate much change over the short term,” he said. “I would guess we’re looking at a couple budget cycles.”
