Whitefish senior Colt Idol, Columbia Falls senior Mackey Nolan and Libby senior Joel Fuller have been named to the Class A all-state basketball team. Idol, who played both guard and forward this season, led Northwestern A in scoring for the second straight year, averaging 20.3 points per game. As a junior, Idol averaged 22.1 points. Idol led the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish at the divisional tournament. Whitefish then lost both games at the state tournament. Idol will play basketball at Montana State University next year.
Nolan, a point guard, guided a Columbia Falls team that emerged as a late-season conference favorite and then took the Northwestern A divisional tournament crown. At state, the Wildcats narrowly lost to Dillon in the championship game 54-50. Nolan averaged 11.1 points per game during the regular season and a conference-best 5.5 assists.
Fuller, a guard, led Libby to a surprising No. 2 seed in the Northwestern A divisional tournament. During the regular season he averaged 11 points and 2.9 assists, while leading the conference in steals at 2.8. He is also a star football player and is heading to Montana State University to play defensive back.
Nolan, Idol and Fuller were also selected first team all-conference for Northwestern A. Click here to see a story about the girls all-state selections, which were announced earlier in the month.
