Columbia Falls Man Killed in Head-In Crash with Trooper

Flathead County authorities have identified the 29-year-old man who died in a head-on crash that critically injured a Montana Highway Patrol trooper.

Deputy Coroner Pete Wingert says Travis C. Vandersloot of Columbia Falls died at the scene of the crash at about 2:40 a.m. Monday.

The state Department of Justice has said that Vandersloot was traveling the wrong way on U.S. Highway 93 near Somers when his car collided head-on with a patrol car driven by Trooper Mike Haynes. Haynes was hospitalized in critical but stable condition in Kalispell.

The crash remains under investigation.
