By Beacon Staff

A 60-year-old man accused of running a red light and causing a fatal crash was charged Thursday with negligent homicide.

Daniel L. Miller of Kalispell made his initial appearance in Flathead County Justice Court for the Nov. 19 crash north of Kalispell that killed 84-year-old Albert Kerestes of Whitefish. Kerestes’ 84-year-old wife was injured in the collision.

According to court documents, Miller said he was having a medical problem with one of his eyes at the time of the crash. He said he accidentally ran the red light as he was wiping his eye and spilled a soda in his lap.

Miller, who has yet to be arraigned, faces up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted.
