Eureka Shopkeeper Accused of Placing Cameras in Dressing Rooms

By Beacon Staff

EUREKA – The operator of a clothing store in far northwestern Montana is accused of placing hidden cameras in dressing rooms and restrooms at the business.

Thirty-six-year-old Richard A. Brown of Eureka is charged with surreptitious visual observation. He also is charged with drug crimes. Those charges include drug possession with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A judge in Lincoln County Justice Court has set bail at $650,000.

Brenda Cavoretto of the Eureka Police Department says an investigation began after a complaint that Brown secretly videotaped customers at his business, High Country Stitches. Officers with a warrant searched Brown’s home, which is above the store. Cavoretto says items found include video recordings, prescription pills, marijuana and LSD.

The investigation is ongoing.
