Thursday: Child Abuse Up, Stalemate Continues, Hardin Gitmo

On the Beacon today, an unprecedented number of alleged child neglect or abuse cases have flooded the Flathead County District Court, stretching resources. A plan to create a controversial Rural Special Improvement District in Creston has irked some residents there. With housing starts in the Flathead way down, builders are hoping for an active summer. Glacier National Park will receive $17.5 million in stimulus money.

In state news, the Legislative budget stalemate continues. The jail in Hardin could be the recipient of detainees from Guantanamo Bay. At NorthWestern Corp.’s annual meeting in Butte, the energy utility reports that it is doing well. And a resolution by a Gallatin lawmaker asserting states’ rights failed in the House yesterday.
