Seminar Offers Training for Nonprofit Board Members

By Beacon Staff

Nonprofits are required by Montana law to have a board of directors of at least 3 people, and most have more than the minimum number – as many as a dozen or more. With more than 400 nonprofits in the Flathead Valley, there are thousands of individuals involved in this type of volunteer work.

The Nonprofit Development Partnership (NpDP) will be providing education for these board members at the upcoming seminar, “The Basics of Board Service: Improving your Skills and Effectiveness as a Nonprofit Leader,” on Wednesday, April 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Flathead Valley Community College. The seminar will be presented by Ned Cooney, the program director for NpDP, and will include information on funding, leadership, organization and more.

Current and potential board members and executive directors are encouraged to attend as well as multiple board members from the same organization. The seminar’s cost is $35, including the workshop, networking, dinner and resource handouts. Registration is handled through the Continuing Education Center at FVCC, and can be done over the phone at 756-3832 or in person at the center’s office in the school’s Arts and Technology building. More details about the seminar and a link to register online can also be found on the Event Calendar at NpDP.org.
