Highways, Schools Closed Due to Spring Storm

HELENA – The roads in and out of Browning were closed Wednesday after a spring snowstorm dumped up to 4 feet of snow in the area. Schools were also closed.

The National Weather Service says the storm brought 2 feet of snow west of Cut Bank while a Glacier National Park spokeswoman said about a foot of snow fell in the St. Mary area, bringing the total snow on the ground to just over 2 feet.

Jonathan Suk, a meteorologist in Great Falls, says moisture coming in from the Oregon coast is mixing with cold are coming down from Canada to bring heavy snowfall to the Rocky Mountain Front.

The Montana Department of Transportation said Interstate 15 from just north of Great Falls to just north of Shelby was closed, as was U.S. 89 from the Canadian border to Pendroy, U.S. Highway 2 from East Glacier to Cut Bank, Montana 200 from Lincoln to Simms along with secondary highways in those areas.
