Local Ultimate Fighter Turns Professional

By Beacon Staff

Less than two weeks after Zach Dickson won the main event’s title bout at the second annual Kalispell Kombat ultimate fighting tournament, Dickson’s teammate Jake Oyler at Straight Blast Gym has announced his intentions to leave behind his amateur status and begin his professional career. Straight Blast Gym’s owner and head coach Travis Davison said Oyler is the first professional ultimate fighter in the valley and very likely in the state. Oyler’s first pro fights will be this summer.

Here’s a press release from Straight Blast Gym:

Jacob Oyler won the Welterweight Title for the Full Contact Fighting Federation on Saturday in Portland, Oregon. Fighting against Jason Monroy (5-2) from Portland, Oyler secured the victory with a rear-naked choke after 1:51 in the second round.

Oyler has built an amateur record of nine wins, two losses. With the support of his coach, Travis Davison, and his teammates at Straight Blast Gym of Montana, Oyler announced that he will begin his professional fight career this summer.

“Jake has proven himself to be the top amateur in his class. I’m excited to see him get paid to do something that he loves,” said Davison, coach and owner of Straight Blast Gym of Montana.

Straight Blast Gym of Montana offers instruction and training in jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts and yoga for adults and children interested in everything from recreation to competition. Classes and training are offered seven days per week at their location at 419 First Ave East in Kalispell.
