Places: Kidsports Complex

By Beacon Staff

The Kidsports Complex in north Kalispell is an oasis for the young outdoor sports enthusiast.

The 138-acre spread is home to the Kidsports nonprofit coalition of five youth sports groups: Kalispell Pee Wee Baseball, Kalispell Babe Ruth Baseball, Kalispell Youth Softball, Flathead Little Guy Football and Kalispell Youth Soccer.

Featuring numerous softball and baseball fields, as well as four football fields and seven soccer fields, the complex also has a newly constructed rubber-topped ball field for people with mental or physical disabilities.

Take a stroll or jog the adjacent trails that weave around the sports fields. The Swan Mountain Range to the east, the Whitefish Mountain Range to the north and the rolling hills toward Ashley Lake provides ambiance as the traffic from nearby U.S. Highway 93 is drowned out by the vistas.

It’s a perfect place to fly a kite and also provides a picnic table and playground for family outings.

Stop and learn some valley history at the “Spring Prairie Tree.” Estimated to be more 300 years old, the tree provided shade to travelers making the climb from south of Kalispell toward Fort Steele, British Columbia.

How to get there: The Kidsports Complex is located off U.S. Highway 93 in Kalispell across from Flathead Valley Community College.
