Though a couple of games remain on the regular season schedule, Polson has already wrapped up the Western A softball crown. The Lady Pirates beat Whitefish 9-2 over the weekend to clinch the regular season title and earn a state tournament berth. The loss means Whitefish is teetering on the edge of a state tournament berth. Whitefish is currently in fifth place with a 6-12 (3-5 conference) record. Whitefish will face fourth-place Libby, also 3-5 in the conference, and Columbia Falls this week. The top four teams make it to state.
Second-place Columbia Falls and third-place Havre have secured their trips to the state tournament, which is held this year in Polson on May 28-30. Columbia Falls boasts a 17-4 (7-2 conference) record and Havre is 12-6 (6-4 conference.) They will wrap up their regular season schedules this week as well.
