GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Crews at Glacier National Park say plowing Going to the Sun Road is about on schedule. They have about three miles left before reaching Logan Pass.
Crews have less snow to contend with this year than they did in 2008. However, an avalanche this year uprooted trees and tore up parts of the road.
Officials think the avalanche happened in January, when the area received some rain on top of heavy snow accumulations.
John Schnaderbeck, is construction project manager for the state highway department. He estimates damages at up to $300,000 and says that about 300 feet of the wall built in 1928 was lost.
The road usually opens around June 8th, and transportation department officials say it should open this year at around that time.
