Larry Iverson III, a senior at Glacier High School, continues to strengthen his claim to being the best amateur golfer in the state. On Monday, Iverson held off a furious comeback from Chris McConnell to win the 75th Don Barnett Memorial Golf Tournament in Missoula. The tournament featured some of the top amateur players from Montana. Iverson, who at one point in the final round led by as many as eight strokes, finished with a 208, while McConnell shot a 210.
Iverson, who will golf at the University of Washington next year, has grown accustomed to winning big tournaments. He dominated the last two Class AA state golf tourneys, winning both titles by a combined 13 strokes – eight in 2007 and five in 2008. He is the two-time defending champion of the International Labor Day Golf Tournament held at Buffalo Hill Golf Club in Kalispell and he once shot a 27 over nine holes. Now he has the Don Barnett Memorial to add to his impressive accolades. Congrats.
