By Beacon Staff

COLUMBIA FALLS – Plum Creek Timber Co. is establishing a college scholarship in honor of Ian Davidson, who recently retired as chairman of the Plum Creek board.

Seattle-based Plum Creek says the annual scholarship for a Montana high school senior will provide $5,000 for the first year of study. The scholarship may be renewed, providing an annual $1,000 for three additional years.

Whitefish High School student Trenna Brown has received the inaugural Davidson scholarship and plans to use it for studies at the Rexburg, Idaho, campus of Brigham Young University.

Davidson is the chairman of Davidson Companies, which are best known for the D.A. Davidson & Co. financial services subsidiary based in Great Falls.

Plum Creek, which has wood-products operations in Montana, offers a number of scholarships. Thirty-three of them, worth a total of $53,000, went to Montana students this year.
