Tuesday: Street Festivals, Assisted Suicide Trial, Baucus-Kennedy

By Beacon Staff

Good morning; on the Beacon today, Kalispell City Council is examining another spare budget for the next fiscal year. Downtown business owners are planning to put on street festivals on Thursday nights, beginning in July. Over the weekend at the Class A state track meet in Butte, Whitefish High School senior Drew Coco wrapped up his high school competitive running career with three first-place finishes in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

The state Department of Justice is hiring software programmers to try to fix all the glitches in the new operating system at the Department of Motor Vehicles. It looks like the upcoming state Supreme Court case over assisted suicide is shaping up to be a big one. Amateur paleontologist Nathan Murphy has been sentenced to 60 days for stealing bones from private land. And Sen. Max Baucus said he will work together with Sen. Ted Kennedy to produce a single comprehensive health care bill by August.
