What Can Professionals Learn from Students?

By Beacon Staff

I missed the 2007 and 2008 installments of this student-driven multimedia collaborative, but have thoroughly enjoyed watching this year’s 2009 “Soul of Athens” projects. Produced by Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication students, along with students from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, the third project explores the question: “What is the ‘soul’ of Athens and its surrounding area?”

The Web site hooked me immediately with its simple and fun-to-navigate front page. The design, organization and execution are spot one. The audio for each project is cleanly recorded, the images are stunning, the ideas brought into each story are interesting, the quotes gathered worked well with the images and above all – and most importantly – each project tells a good and interesting story.

No matter what level you are as a professional photojournalist, this project is a reminder of what we strive to accomplish. See it here.
