Gov. Brian Schweitzer, head of the Democratic Governors Association, visited two eastern states last week to endorse a pair of Democratic governors facing tough elections this year.
Schweitzer gave a spirited endorsement of incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine of New Jersey, who trails his Republican challenger, former U.S. attorney Chris Christie, in several recent polls.
Montana’s governor also threw his support behind Terry McAuliffe, former Democratic National Committee chairman who still has to win his party’s nomination in Tuesday’s primary for a chance to face Republican Robert McDonnell.
The two gubernatorial races will be closely watched this year. And many pundits believe their results could indicate how 2010, an election year, may shape up.
