Fish Trails Criterium Race Results

By Beacon Staff

The Great Northern Cycling Club would like to thank the Whitefish Police Department, members of the Fish Trails Committee, the Whitefish Streets & Recreation Department, our sponsors, volunteers and the vendors for all their help in making the 2009 Fish Trails State Championship Criterium such a successful bicycle race. A special thanks to all the home and business owners and those affected by the rerouting of traffic. We appreciate your understanding.

Blustery but dry weather this year was a welcome blessing after last year’s cold soggy race. The day’s events started off with the children’s bike decorating and race/parade followed by the Fish Trails dedication – then fast, fun racing.

About 80 racers of all ages and abilities traveled from different parts of Montana to participate in the state championship race. Three local bike teams – Great Northern Cycle Club, Flathead Cycling, and Sportsman & Ski Haus – participated in the races. Brian Williams and Tamara Bassette of Northern Rockies Ortho, Missoula were crowned state champions. Local riders Chris Connely, Walt Chauner and Bob Leavitt from Great Northern Cycle Club and Lynette Van Aken from Flathead Cycling also claimed first place podium finishes in their respective categories. Congratulations to all the racers for participating in this event.
