Arrest Made in Whitefish Hotel Robbery

By Beacon Staff

A clerk accused of taking part in the April 7 robbery of a Whitefish hotel where she worked has been arrested, and police are looking for an alleged accomplice.

Whitefish police arrested 18-year-old Nicole Chappel of Columbia Falls on Wednesday. She is charged with accountability to robbery.

Police say Chappel met with 19-year-old Derrick Lee Irvine at the Holiday Inn Express on U.S. 93 and showed him a large amount of cash. Irvine is accused of telling Chappel he was going to rob the night clerk after Chappel ended her shift.

Irvine allegedly confronted the clerk with what was described as a bomb or bear spray and stole more than $400. He is described as white, 6-foot-1 and about 175 pounds. He has blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion.
