Former Oregon Quarterback to Play for the Griz

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – Justin Roper has confirmed that he will play for the Montana Griz in 2009.

Roper was the starting quarterback for Oregon last season until he suffered a knee injury in Week 3.

Roper confirmed his decision to play for the Griz on Saturday in an interview with The Missoulian.

Roper says Montana is known for having a great program and for being a great college football state.

Oregon head coach Chip Kelly said last month that the 6-6, 204-pound Georgia native made the decision to leave that program after emerging from spring drills behind Ducks starter Jeremiah Masoli.

The Griz open their 2009 season at home on Sept. 5 against NCAA Division II Western State.
