Mosquito Control Could Expand West of Butte

BUTTE – Mosquito control efforts could be extended next summer into south Butte and as far west as Ramsey.

Dan Powers of the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department says residents in areas being considered to become part of the mosquito control district will be sent letters to find out whether they support the plan.

At least 40 percent would have to agree to become part of the district, which could mean a flat fee paid on property taxes for mosquito control.

The move to expand mosquito fogging is based on complaints by residents about mosquitoes.

Powers says the agency doesn’t have enough money to respond to complaints this summer from residents who live outside the current district.
