On the Agenda: Whitefish Lakeshore Regulations

By Beacon Staff

The Whitefish City Council will vote on a significant revision to the city’s lake and lakeshore protection regulations at a public meeting tonight at 7:10 p.m. at City Hall.

At a meeting on June 15, the council listened to public comment regarding the proposed update of the city’s lakeshore regulations. The regulations are designed to clarify language for the permitting process and update allowable uses on Whitefish, Lost Coon and Blanchard lakes.

After listening to public comment at the June 15 meeting, councilors requested city planning staff to further research a number of issues, including non-conforming structures, and prepare language amendments for tonight’s meeting. The public hearing specifically for the regulations is over, though people can address the issue at the general public hearing portion at the beginning of tonight’s meeting.

Councilors will vote tonight whether to adopt the lengthy regulations with the proposed amendments.

Due to the expected length of the meeting, city officials have elected to cancel a work session on architectural review standards that was scheduled for 6:15 p.m. tonight. Because of this, the council will vote to postpone discussion of the standards to a later meeting.

At the 7:10 meeting, the council is also scheduled to vote on a request from North Valley Hospital to amend the city’s growth policy to allow for the future growth of its medical office space.
