LIBBY – Lincoln County authorities say a Libby woman and her 2-year-old son died in a mobile home fire over the weekend.
The Lincoln County coroner identified the victims as 26-year-old Lorna Coffman and her son, Montie McPherson.
Libby volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze at just after midnight Sunday morning. Assistant Fire Marshal Steve Lauer says the front half of the mobile home was engulfed in heavy flames. The victims were found in the back bedroom, and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Lauer says the cause is still under investigation but it initially appears it was started by a cigarette in an ashtray that ignited a couch. Lauer says there were no smoke detectors in the home.
