MISSOULA – The Missoula County Sheriff’s Department says a 20-year-old man has died after a skateboarding accident.

Sgt. Tony Rio says the man was skateboarding with a group of friends on a road in the Rattlesnake Drainage Friday night and stayed behind when the group left. When the man missed a wedding the next day, the friends called emergency workers.

Deputies found the man dead by the side of the road where he had been skateboarding, and determined that he died sometime Friday night after crashing into a tree.

The man wasn’t wearing a helmet or other protective gear.

An autopsy is pending; the man’s name has not been released.
