Eat a Burger, Support Flathead Youth, Repeat

By Beacon Staff

If you like music, food and empowering youths in the Flathead community, Saturday is your day. The Whitefish Foursquare Church and the Share Your Voice Foundation are holding barbecues on Saturday to support their individual causes.

First, you can check out the barbecue at the Whitefish Foursquare Church in support of their child enrichment program. Children’s Pastor Karla Kane says the church has become a safe place for kids to go get a snack and hangout, and she would like to expand the fun.

“We’re wanting to get other people in the community involved so we can provide a safe place,” Kane said.

There will be a yard sale and bake sale beginning at 9 a.m. and a barbecue with live music running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For questions, call Whitefish Foursquare Church at 406-862-1653. The church is located at 233 Kalispell Avenue in Whitefish, across from Whitefish Middle School.

Then, there’s the barbecue bash for the Share Your Voice Foundation at the Marina Cay Resort in Bigfork from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Entertainment will include performances from local artists as well as graduates from the SYVF’s Empowerment through Performance Program. Miss Montana USA 2009, Misti Vogt, is also set to make an appearance.

The event is free and open to the public, with food and drinks available for purchase. Donations will also be accepted to help fund SYVF scholarships.

SYVF co-founders and directors Jennifer Julian and Karen Borger described the performance as a “celebration of young voices from the Flathead.”

“The Share Your Voice Foundation is dedicated to the provision of the Empowerment through Performance Workshop programs and other arts-based cultural and educational activities,” Julian and Borger said in a press release. “Each summer an ETP workshop is held in the Flathead Valley of Montana. Participants attend on full scholarships, with the majority being drawn from community organizations and group homes.”
