Unless you’ve been on the lake or camping in remote wilderness all summer, you may have heard that Glacier National Park is turning 100 years old in 2010.
To celebrate this centennial milestone, the park is having a picnic at Lake McDonald Lodge and the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier on Sunday, Aug. 23, to kick off the 18-month party.
Celebration Coordinator Kass Hardy said the picnic starts at 11 a.m. and runs to 4 p.m., with free admission to the park. There will be activities for kids, music, food for sale and free cake.
Park Superintendent Chas Cartwright will speak at both locations; he’ll first address Glacier Park Lodge at 12:45, then Lake McDonald Lodge at about 3 p.m.
