By Beacon Staff

WEST GLACIER – Glacier National Park officials say a man has died after falling about 50 feet while hiking near Helen Lake.

Wade Muehlhof of the National Park Service says the man and two family members were climbing below Ahern Pass near the lake on Saturday afternoon when he fell. Muehlhof says another hiker in the area climbed down to the man but found that he had died from the fall.

The park service says Minuteman Aviation will recover the man’s body and transport the two family members from the scene of the accident.

The man’s identity and age have not been disclosed.
