Eureka Burger Runner-Up in Grilling Contest

MISSOULA – A hamburger that a Eureka restaurant owner invented with leftover food was the runner-up in a national contest held by the TV show “Live! with Regis and Kelly.”

James Monroe’s “Bubba Burger” — a mesquite-fired patty topped with spicy Cajun sausage, jumbo shrimp, chipotle sauce and cheddar cheese — finished second to a pulled pork sandwich made by Brad Orrison of the Shed Barbecue and Blues Joint in Ocean Springs, Miss.

The “Bubba Burger,” changed to the “Eureka Burger” by the show, won the best hamburger contest in Live’s Ultimate Hometown Grill-Off.

Monroe and Orrison appeared on the show Friday to prepare their entries and the four judges chose Orrison’s sandwich as the winner. His recipe will be featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

Monroe’s wife, Marsha, says the publicity helped them keep the Cutting Board open and even hire additional staff.
