Reunion for Whitefish’s 1979 Championship Football Team

By Beacon Staff

Whitefish High School officials are seeking contact information for members of the 1979-1980 state championship football team. They plan to hold a 30-year reunion celebration on Oct. 16 for the team. The celebration will include a social during halftime of the Whitefish-Polson football game and then a reception afterward at the Sherwood in the Mountain Mall.

The 1979 team beat Powell County 14-7 in the Class A title game to claim Whitefish’s only state championship in football. Since then, the Bulldogs have reached the state championship game four times, according to the Montana High School Association. In 1980, Whitefish failed to repeat as champion after losing to Glasgow 22-19 in the championship. Whitefish’s other three title game appearances were a 27-0 loss to Glasgow in 1986; a 22-12 loss to Sidney in 1987; and a 12-9 defeat to Fergus in 2001.

If you have contact information for any member of this team, e-mail Jackie Fuller at [email protected] or Colleen Sullivan at [email protected]. You can also call the school’s main office with any questions at (406) 862-8600.
