Glacier and Flathead Meet for Cross-Town Football

By Beacon Staff

Tonight at 7 p.m. at Legends Stadium is the third edition of Kalispell’s cross-town football rivalry. Flathead has won the first two meetings, but for the first time Glacier enters the game as the favorite. Glacier is fighting for a playoff position, while a loss for the Braves would be devastating for their chances. The top eight teams in the 14-team Class AA league make the playoffs. The Wolfpack enter the game with a 2-2 record and Flathead is 1-3. This game marks the midway point of the 10-game regular season.

Here are a few key stats to keep in mind entering tonight’s game:

-Glacier averages the fourth-most points in the state at 29.8 per game, but also gives up the fourth most at 27.8
-Flathead averages 10.5 points per game and gives up 31 per game
-Glacier quarterback Shay Smithwick-Hann is fourth in the state in passing at 193.2 yards per game, but only has three touchdowns and four picks
-Glacier running back Taylor Hart is tied for second in the state with eight touchdowns, one behind Helena Capital’s Matt Miller
-Flathead sophomore George Sherwood threw for a team season-high 227 yards in his first start at quarterback last week in a 40-16 loss to Missoula Sentinel
-Glacier’s pass defense is ranked last in the state, allowing 248.2 yards per game through the air
