Platke, Cameron Win Divisional Golf by 20 Strokes

By Beacon Staff

It’s fitting that Whitefish High School is hosting this year’s Class A state golf tournament. The Bulldogs won the boys title last year, finished second for girls and are poised to replicate, if not better, those performances this year, if divisionals are any indication.

At the Northwestern A divisional golf tournament on Thursday in Columbia Falls, sophomore Reed Platke won his second straight divisional tourney. Platke, who finished second in the state last year by one stroke, won Thursday’s tourney by an amazing 12 strokes. He shot a 73 and Cody Fischer of Polson shot an 85 for second.

For girls, senior BreAnna Cameron won the divisional tournament by eight strokes, shooting an 83. Polson’s Natalia Arlint shot a 91 for second place. Last year at state, Cameron shot a 169 to tie for second place.

The Class A state golf tournament, hosted by the Bulldogs, will be held at Village Greens in Kalispell on Oct. 9-10.
