State wildlife officials are investigating the death of an adult female grizzly, whose carcass was found in the Flathead National Forest north of Columbia Falls.
A biologist with Fish, Wildlife and Parks discovered the bear’s radio collar was emitting a mortality signal while on a monitoring flight in the area on Monday. Wardens went to the site, near Kimmerly Basin, and recovered the bear. It appeared to have been dead for several days.
FWP Warden Capt. Lee Anderson says the case is under investigation and no other details about the bear’s death will be released.
Anderson asks that anyone with information about the bear’s death to call 1-800-TIP-MONT. A reward may be available for persons giving information that leads to a conviction.
