Places: Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch

By Beacon Staff

With a few more weeks before Halloween, there is plenty of time to visit the Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch to pick the perfect pumpkin for carving or decorating.

Located off Columbia Falls Stage Road, the DeVries family has maintained a large “U-Pick” field where families can browse and choose their own.

But before picking your pumpkin, take time to visit the numerous other activities the DeVries have assembled throughout their farm. Learn about farm animals at the petting zoo that includes goats, alpacas and sheep, or wander through the bunny village.

Kids and their parents are welcome to take turns pedaling through the hay-lined “trike maze,” play in the sand box, wander through the corn patch or relax on the porch at the barn.

Treats such as caramel apples and cookies are also available for purchase. Or enjoy a bag of fresh kettle corn – a new addition to the farm this year.

The “pumpkin train,” a line of wagons being pulled by a green tractor, is one of the favorites of visiting families. Ride the train around the farm before heading through the heart of the pumpkin patch.

Sweet Pickin’s is open through Oct. 31.

How to get there:
From downtown Kalispell, travel east on U.S. Highway 2. Continue straight onto MT Highway 35. Turn north on Columbia Falls Stage. Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch is on the west side of the road.
