CFAC Offers Limited Youth And Disabled Hunting Opportunity

By Beacon Staff

Columbia Falls Aluminum Company recently enrolled approximately 900 Acres of their property into Montana’s Block Management Program for youth and disabled hunting opportunities by written permission only. The property is located just east of Columbia Falls along the south edge of the Flathead River.

Hunters with a disability license and youth ages 12-15 can hunt with written permission only. Permission is granted at the Region One FWP office located at 490 North Meridian Road. Permission is granted on a first come first serve bases and limited to one hunting party of up to 4 licensed hunters per day. Hunting will take place Friday-Monday during the big game season. This will allow for a rest period during the week. Hunters will check out a key to the gate and can travel on designated roads only.

According to Warden Captain Lee Anderson this is a great opportunity for the youth and disabled hunters in the Flathead Valley. “This property hasn’t been open to the public to hunt for a long time,” Anderson said, “and provides an excellent chance to harvest a deer or even an elk. CFAC deserves a huge pat on the back for taking on this project.”

FWP approached CFAC with the idea this summer and it finally came together. “We wanted to give something back to the community and when FWP approached us we jumped on board,” says Gary Kimmett of CFAC. “The plan is to start the program small the first year to see how well it works.” Anderson said that if the hunt goes well, CFAC might look at increasing opportunity on other portions of CFAC property. He reminds people that this is limited to written permission only, any other use on the property is not authorized.
