THE WINE SPY: Giant Wine Company, Sinner’s Punch

By Beacon Staff

Sinner’s Punch seemed like the perfect wine to try for Halloween. It’s made by The Giant Wine Company, which is a collaboration between Mark Ryan Winery and Gorman Winery out of Woodinville, Wash. These two wineries are on everyone’s who’s who list of top Washington winemakers. They are known for sourcing fruit from only the best Washington vineyards (including Ciel du Cheval, Conner Lee, Klipsun).

The Sinner’s Punch is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, a wicked Witch’s Brew that is both hedonistic and complex.

Layman’s Review: I was intrigued by the name and impressed by the taste of this blended wine. The light fruit flavors didn’t overpower the meal and the finish was smooth. Definitely a wine that can be served with a variety of meals without having the taste of the wine take over the meal.

Expert’s Review: Sinner’s Punch is a hedonistic blend of 80 percent Syrah and 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Giant Wine Company, a collaboration between Mark Ryan and Chris Gorman, who are each receiving overwhelming praise for their eponymous wineries. Big and Dark in the glass, an initial sniff of the Sinner’s Punch reveals fresh cracked pepper and deep plum, with flavors of black cherry and a touch of cool mint. Finishes long and full with a dollop of warm baking spices. Sinfully delicious!
