Hurt to Trot

By Beacon Staff

I was walking around my Mecca of fashion Tuesday, a place called Soho in New York. Soho stands for south of Houston Street and it is a perfect place to people watch, catch new fashions and enjoy great food! When I started walking I was feeling good wearing my plaid H&M cropped wool coat, a black INC off the shoulder tunic with skinny jeans and my black Born boots. My accessories were simple, a black Chanel bag and gold rosette chandelier ear rings. It sounds like a lot of black and that is what people think you wear in New York, all black, but truthfully it was the only thing I could pull together. My other clothing I had with me was from a Costa Rican wedding I attended a few days before and clearly my cotton skirt was not going to fly for this time of year. l black, but truthfully it was the only thing I could pull together. My other clothing I had with me was from a Costa Rican wedding I attended a few days before and clearly my cotton skirt was not going to fly for this time of year.

After about 10 hours of trolling around Soho, Greenwich, and Chelsea my feet were killing me (in three-inch heels) – it was a little ridiculous. So in my agony I was looking around wondering if anyone else was feeling like me? No, no they were not because everyone was wearing flats! There were converse sneakers, moccasins, Doc Martens and knee-high boots. Realizing that nothing would save me now but a foot message or pedicure and, being that every shop was closed, my boyfriend just heard me whine the whole way home. A lesson learned: It is not always about style; comfort should play a huge part in your wardrobe. So be sure when dressing for here or anywhere, let yourself be realistic and dress what makes you feel and look good.
