THE WINE SPY: Jakoby Balance Riesling 2008

By Beacon Staff

Germany is definitely known for producing high quality Rieslings ranging from very dry to deliciously sweet. Wine experts note that every wine producing area in Germany is capable of producing both dry and sweet varietals but claim that the movement toward producing drier wines has taken hold through many regions.

German Riesling’s are a great value and a nice departure from the usual offerings with dinner. Jakoby Balance can really settle the temperatures of spicy and hot foods. Try with an Asian or Mexican dish.

Layman’s Review: I enjoyed this wine’s not too sweet, not too dry, taste. The name balance seemed perfect and the price was right on target.

Expert’s Review: Bravo for resurrecting this in-between style of Riesling that delivers what it announces – Balance. It tastes delicious. This ‘08 has nice fullness and a fresh appealing Riesling aroma. It is an easygoing, amenable glass of wine with an animated finish. It has a pull to the back palate and ravishing vivacity at an insanely low price. Drink now to seven years.
