MISSOULA – Lots of people watched the Division I Football Championship Subdivision semifinal between Montana and Appalachian State.

Montana won the Dec. 12 game 24-17. The Grizzlies also did well in terms of people watching on television, with some 1.9 million households tuning in.

The game was the highest rated cable broadcast of an FCS playoff on ESPN or ESPN2, UM athletics said Wednesday.

About 1.5 million households tuned in to the Grizzlies’ FCS championship game against Villanova on Dec. 18. Montana lost 23-21 but it was the highest rated FCS championship since 1994.

Athletic Director Jim O’Day says the numbers reflect Grizzly football’s nationwide following.
