Macy’s to Close Downtown Missoula Store

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – Macy’s has announced the closure of five stores, including those in Missoula and Boise, Idaho.

Major sales are scheduled to begin on Sunday and continue for 60 days, after which the stores will close.

The company said Tuesday the closure is part of an annual effort to close underperforming locations while also opening stores in new markets.

Also closing are Macy’s stores at Summit Place Mall in Waterford, Mich.; at Northwest Plaza in St. Ann, Mo., and at Burlington Center Mall in Burlington, N.J. All the stores will follow a similar closure timeline.

Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren says employees at stores that are closing may be offered positions at other Macy’s stores, where possible. Regular full-time and part-time associates that are laid off will receive severance benefits.

The downtown Missoula Macy’s has 55 employees while the downtown Boise store employs 61.
