Missoula Hospital Faces Layoffs, Hour Reductions

MISSOULA – Officials with Community Medical Center in Missoula say they are looking at a series of layoffs and hour reductions that will affect about 50 jobs.

Mary Windecker, the hospital’s director of strategic planning, said decisions on the cuts will be made in the coming weeks. She noted that demand at the hospital has declined about 6 percent over the last six months, and the cuts will fall across the board with no one department singled out.

“Health care is down across the nation and it’s down here,” she said. “We expect it to come back strongly at some point, but right now we face the same problems the rest of the economy does.”

The hospital has about 1,200 employees whose jobs amount to 900 full-time positions.

Windecker said not all the jobs affected will be layoffs.
